he did not like new people very well.

Well, until we met.

It was love at first site. It took the girls by surprise,
they couldn't believe that Rowdy would buddy up with anyone
on their first encounter. I worked with him at the Shelter for a
couple of months, and then adopted him.

He is the sweetest, most loyal and loving personality of any dog
that I have ever owned. His life has changed, forever,
and he has changed mine, as well.

Ruby
Ruby found her new home just this Labor Day.
She's still a bit nervous, but undeniably lovable!
Trainer Tip!
Nervousness is a common trait found in dogs
brought home from rescues.  Ensuring they
have a quiet area of your home to call their
own will help them start to feel more safe in
their new environment.  Encourage them to
revisit their "spot" with treats and soft loving
words and petting.  Try to avoid exposing
them to loud noises and excessive activity
(such as energetic kids!) when they are in
their spot.  Do this along with some long
walks around the neighborhood.  The exercise
will help relieve stress by getting them tired,
and also having the chance to sniff and scent
their new part of town will add familiarity and
teach them what is "theirs."

Halo the Happy Haven Hound.
He had whip worms, was dirty, needed to be groomed,
and had 25 bad teeth out of 32 to where he couldn't eat dry food
without water or gravy to soak it first...
BAD breath too from it, wow!

So we took care of all that, and believe it or not,
he shakes hands, guards kids and puppies from the road,
begs for hours on his back feet, is housebroken...
not to mention an all around great guy!
He is perfect for adopting seniors as he is 8 or 10 years old!!
Who said the puppies have to be the best ones to adopt? :-)

I rescued Rumi from Chicago’s Animal Care
and Control when she was about 2 years old.
I was working for a no-kill shelter at the time,
and she would not stop following me with her
eyes every time I walked by her kennel.
The rest is history!
She is a “love sponge” and loves the snow!
Riley
I adopted Riley as a puppy from
a no-kill shelter in Missouri.
He was just a little thing-
You’d never guess it now!
He used to be my demo dog for
[dog training] classes and is almost too
smart for his own good!
He is a very fun dog to train.
